Tom Green

Program Manager

Tom Green is the Program Manager for Hearts of Gold and serves as the primary point of contact for veterans entering the program. He guides applicants through the full intake process, collecting and reviewing eligibility surveys, applications, and all required documentation to ensure each veteran receives accurate, timely, and compassionate support.

Tom also manages all revenue and expenses for the program, maintaining financial records and monitoring budget activity to support responsible stewardship of resources. He prepares both financial and programmatic reports that contribute to transparency, compliance, and long‑term program sustainability.

Before joining Hearts of Gold full time, Tom worked in finance and business at West Virginia University. During that time, he became the handler for therapy dogs Ryder and Betty—an experience that sparked his deep connection to the mission of Hearts of Gold. Working with Ryder and Betty not only introduced Tom to the transformative impact of service and therapy dogs, it also inspired him to transition into a full‑time role with the program. In addition to his administrative and financial responsibilities, Tom plays an active role in community outreach and educational initiatives. He represents Hearts of Gold at events, presentations, and collaborative activities, helping expand awareness of the program’s mission and building strong partnerships across the region.

As the handler for Ryder and Betty, Tom integrates their presence into outreach, training, and veteran engagement. Their work together brings comfort, connection, and emotional support to the community, embodying the heart of the program’s mission.
